Abstract

Two main themes seem to be emerging from the hype over Internet-based research's potential: 1. Phone surveys no longer will work, and the decision would have been the same. Fans of Internet surveys often point to the decline in telephone survey response rates as a reason why Internet surveys are the wave of the future. Although response rates are a problem the industry needs to face, recent studies show that non-respondents are not different enough to affect most findings' validity - non-response is just as big a problem for Internet surveys.
